SSC CHSL photo and signature size

CHSL 2026 takes the photograph live. The signature you upload is JPEG, 10–20 KB, about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm, with a conflicting 4.0 cm line in the annexure.

Your image never leaves this phone. The resize happens on this device. ExamPicResizer does not receive the file.

Part of this preset is not a number printed in the notice. The table says which part. If the form disagrees, follow the form.

Prepare the file

CHSL 2026 repeats the 6.0 cm instruction in the how-to-apply section and the 4.0 cm instruction in the annexure.

What the notice says

CHSL is the 10+2 exam for posts such as LDC, JSA and DEO. The 2026 notice uses the same live-photo application as the other SSC exams: you face the camera, and you do not upload a studio file.

Paragraph 9.6 of the CHSL 2026 notice sets the signature at JPEG or JPG, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm. Annexure instructions in that PDF say about 4.0 cm by 2.0 cm. The tool exposes both. Neither line states a DPI.

Signature

CHSL 2026 repeats the 6.0 cm instruction in the how-to-apply section and the 4.0 cm instruction in the annexure.

  • Black or dark ink on white paper. Keep the signature horizontal.
  • Make the signature large. SSC’s own upload note says miniature signatures are the main reason files are rejected, and the signature should fill most of the box.
  • JPEG or JPG only, between 10 KB and 20 KB.
  • Pixel dimensions. The notice prints centimetres, not pixels. 709×236 is 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm at an assumed 300 DPI, the DPI SSC prints for Constable (GD) 2026 but not for this notice.
  • Which centimetre size applies. The body of the CHSL 2026 notice says about 6.0 × 2.0 cm and the annexure says about 4.0 × 2.0 cm.

Why these files get rejected

  • Using a saved photograph, or a photo of a photograph, in the live-capture step.
  • Spectacles, a cap, or a mask in the captured frame.
  • A signature so small that it looks like a thumbnail. That is the rejection SSC describes most often.
  • Signature file under 10 KB or over 20 KB.
  • Uploading the signature in PNG, PDF, or HEIC.

Questions candidates actually ask

Is the SSC CHSL photo size still 20–50 KB?

Not for the online form. Older guides still quote a 20–50 KB passport upload. CHSL 2026 captures the photograph live and does not give that file size.

What signature dimensions does CHSL 2026 print?

About 6.0 cm wide by 2.0 cm high in paragraph 9.6, and about 4.0 cm by 2.0 cm in the annexure. File size is 10–20 KB, JPEG, in both places.

Should the signature touch the edges of the box?

SSC’s signature instruction sheet says to sign so the signature occupies most of the box, at least about 80 percent. A tiny mark in a large white field is what gets marked miniature.

Do I prepare a separate photo for the exam centre?

The notice still tells many candidates to carry recent colour passport photographs to the venue, unless Aadhaar authentication removes that check. It does not give a digital size for those prints.
